I am a graduate of The Chicago School of Massage Therapy ( now Cortiva Institute ) and licensed by the State of Illinois to practice massage therapy.
I hold a Reiki Level III Certificate from Billie Topa-Tate at the Mystical Sciences Institute. Billie’s guidance helped me to make sense of my highly sensitive, empathic nature early in my career.
The energy healing that I do now is simply what comes naturally through me. I do my best to be grounded and present, to be an instrument of peace, and to provide my clients with compassionate, healing therapeutic touch.
I am certified in myofascial trigger point therapy for the Lower Leg & Foot, Mid Back, Abdominal, and Thoracic Pain, Frozen Shoulder, & Upper and Lower Body Assessment from Mary Biancalana at The Chicago Center for Myofascial Pain Relief. I am on track to become a Nationally Board Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Specialist.
I began studying myofascial trigger point therapy with my great teacher, Mary B shortly after graduating massage therapy school. This approach to bodywork instantly felt like home to me. Myo means muscle and Fascia means connective tissue. Trigger Points are hyper irritable points located within a taut band of skeletal muscle and fascia that can lead to a variety of pain and symptoms of discomfort.
These points can be found in any muscle in the body and tend to replicate a pain pattern. For example, trigger points located in one of the shoulder muscles, infraspinatus, can create pain patterns that feel like back of neck pain, deep shoulder joint pain, & pain running down the arm and through the hand. These referral pain patterns were mapped out by Dr Janet Travell who wrote the reference guides from which I have learned. I keep these books at the office so that you can see the images of pain pattern referrals that you may be experiencing.
Trigger Points can develop due to stress, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, repetitive movements, poor posture, muscle weakness, inactivity, trauma, injury or participating in unaccustomed activity. Activated trigger points can create the recognizable pain referral patterns, and may also contribute to feeling heavy, burdened by stress and tension, restricted in movement, finding it difficult to stretch or to find relief through stretching, and feeling stiff, tense, sore, and uncomfortable.
Trigger Points are often an overlooked source of pain and dysfunction. When you are clear of held stress and tension, and relieved of active trigger points, you feel GREAT! As you should. My goal is to help you to feel your absolute best.
